Children's Dance Theatre is excited to bring this delightful full-length, 2-hour ballet to the Rochester community.  This is a comedic ballet about a mysterious toy-maker, Dr. Coppélius, who lives in the town square.  Dr. Coppélius shares his house with the beautiful life-like doll, Coppélia, that he created to keep himself company in his workshop.  Every day Coppélia is seated with her book on the front balcony of the toy-maker's workshop.  His neighbor, Swanhilda, and her fiancé, Franz, believe Coppélia is real. Franz falls in love with the beautiful doll.  The adventure begins as both he and Swanhilda sneak into the toy-maker's workshop, separately, to meet Coppélia.  Coppélia will be presented in three-acts and will include Stars Of The Minnesota Ballet: Prima Ballerina, Suzanne Kritzberg & Reinhard von Rabenau. RISE is an eclectic dance performance put together under the artistic direction of four Minneapolis-based choreographers: Joanie Mix, Lindsay Bullock, Carrie Homuth and Jennifer Mack. Through the hour and a half-long performance, the characters dig their way out of a desperate, bleak world by taking action and brilliantly banding together. As they perform jazz, modern, ballet and contemporary dance styles, these characters articulate the idea of power and strength in numbers. The result is a pathway to a more peaceful, thriving future.
